Senior Form Students Showcase Public Speaking Skills

On 25th September, our school’s English Panel organised an engaging Speech Contest for Form 5 and Form 6 students. The theme was ‘The Pros and Cons of AI for My Life and Future Career’. Prior to the competition, every student was required to prepare a speech script. They then had to deliver it once in class. The top three performers from each class were selected to go up against contestants from other classes. This contest aimed to help students develop their confidence in public speaking, enhance their speaking intonation and pronunciation, and learn how to assess their peers’ performances. We hold the belief that by providing students with plenty of opportunities to practice, they will eventually demonstrate progress, just as the saying goes, ‘Practice makes perfect.’

Throughout the contest, each participant had to deliver a 3-minute speech in front of the students. Afterwards, they were asked one impromptu question connected to their speech. Once the contest drew to a close, all students were invited to offer comments and give marks to the contestants. The overall feedback and comments were highly constructive. Students were able to learn from them and make improvements afterwards. All in all, this proved to be a worthwhile learning experience for the students, as they could gain a great deal from observing their fellow students perform.
